The major interest in Mathura is the Hindu god Krishna who was believed to have been born here. Apart from the regions side, Mathura is quite a colorful place which can be perfect for a lovely trip.Considered to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna, the popular god of the Hindus, Mathura is among the seven holy cities of the religion. The entire landscape of Mathura is dotted with incredible temples that were created in various eras. The city is blessed by the waters of the holy river Yamuna. The river lights up spectacularly in the evening when the faithful send out thousands of candles over the waters after the evening prayer ceremonies.
The history of Mathura is also quite interesting. It was once a major center for the Buddhists as well. Later it was overrun by the Mughal and the Afghan invaders. The rich history is beautifully showcased by the sculptures that still exist from those periods.

By Air :
The nearest airport is Kheria in Agra (62 km.) and is connected to Delhi, Khajuraho and Varanasi.
By Rail :
Mathura railway junction connects the city to the major cities of the country like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
By Road :
The National highway 2 links the holy town with other parts of the country. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation provides numerous buses to nearby cities such as Kanpur, Agra, Delhi and Lucknow
Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple
The Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple is a magnificent structure that marks the spot where lord Krishna was born. According to legends, Lord Krishna was born inside a prison cell which is still showcased inside the temple. The architecture of the temple is fascinating. Inside the temple, you can see some exquisite statues from bygone eras that were found as a result of excavations.
Vishram Ghat
The beautiful Vishram Ghat is believed to be the location where Lord Krishna came to rest after he slew King Kansa, the tyrannical ruler of the region and his uncle. You can take a rejuvenating ride on a boat over the tranquil waters of the river Yamuna that flow by this place.
Potara Kund
One of the most beautiful sights in Mathura, the Potara Kund is a water tank with a legend and place in Hindu mythology. According to the legends of Hinduism, the mother of Lord Krishna used to wash his clothes in the waters of this tank. The waters are considered to be holy and many pilgrims opt to take a dip here.
Kusum Sarovar
The placid waters of the water tank known as Kusum Sarovar make the place seem all the more relaxing. Kusum Sarovar is quite beautiful with short staircases leading to the waters from all directions. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna used to visit here often and rest under the Kadamba tree.
Kesava Deo Temple
The Kesava Deo Temple is filled with incredibly artistic murals depicting the life and times o Lord Krishna. The temple has been destroyed quite a few times since its first creation possibly 5000 years ago. The latest structure completed its creation in the year 1965. Inside the temple in an underground chamber you will find a small and bare room whose sole occupant is a slab of rock. It is believed that Lord Krishna was born here.
Gita Mandir
The Gita Mandir exudes an aura of serenity with its beautiful marble construction. Inside the peaceful temple, you will be presented with an awe-inspiring sight. You will find in the midst of the green gardens a red pillar on which the entire Bhagavad Gita has been written down.
Dwarkadheesh Temple
The Dwarkadheesh Temple sprawls beautifully on the banks of the holy river Yamuna. Constructed in the year 1814, the temple has a beautiful architecture. It is dedicated to Lord Krishna, the king of Dwarka. The Dwarkadheesh Temple is filled with some delicate carvings and decorated with fine paintings.
