Glory to Lord Ram
The city of Rameshwaram is a fascinating place whose history has been merged with mythological legends of Hinduis. One of the most important religious sites for the Hindus, the city is spectacular as well. According to the legends of Hindu religion, Lord Ram chose this place to worship Lord Shiva. It was here that he built a bridge to Sri Lanka to rescue his wife, Lady Sita from the clutches of the demon king Ravana. There are certainly remnants of an ancient strip of land here drowned by the sea. This bridge is known as Adam’s bridge. As a center of Hindu religion, the legends associated with Rameshwaram are certainly fascinating. The place is one of the Char Dham sites of Hindu pilgrimage. It is also home to one of the 12 sacred Jyothirlingas, sites of worship of Lord Shiva. Rich in temples, the town offers a number of interesting vistas.

Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple
The huge Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to the Hindu mythology, the site was chosen by none other than Lord Ram himself to worship Lord Shiva. He wanted to absolve his sin of killing a Brahmin during his war against the demon king Ravana. According to the same legend, he had asked Lord Hanuman, his ally to bring the largest Shivalingam from the Himalayas for his prayer. While Lord Hanuman was on his way, Lady Sita built a small Shivalingam for prayer. It is this Shivalingam which is ensconced in the mighty temple. The one brought by Lord Hanuman is also kept in a separate temple in the same compound. These structures look immensely magnificent against the blue skies.
Gandamadana Parvatham
The Gandamadana Parvatham is situated on a small hill. This is another immensely holy place for the Hindus as it contains the footprints of Lord Ram. From the hill, you can get some incredible views and panoramas of the entire city of Rameshwaram.
The Five-faced Hanuman Temple
The Five-faced Hanuman Temple marks the spot where Lord Hanuman revealed his five faces. Lord Hanuman, Lord Narashima, Lord Adivaraha, Lord Garuda and Lord Hayagriva are the five faces shown here. Lord Hanuman was presented with the senthooram stone when he revealed his faces. The legendary senthooram stone was used by the monkey army to build the floating bridge to Lanka for Lord Ram. It has been stored within temple. There are also idols of Lord Ram and Lady Sita here.
Dhanushkodi
The Dhanushkodi is another important place for the Hindus. A temple was located here but was unfortunately destroyed completely by a cyclone in 1964. The place still has a sacred significance for pilgrims who consider the place to be the meeting point for the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
