Lord Jagannath is, according to Hindu legends, the Lord of the Universe and is an avatar of Lord Krishna. The temple is an important pilgrimage site for the Hindus and non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the place.

The temple complex is incredibly huge and is spread over an area of 400,000 square feet. Each day, the idols are ritually dressed for various pujas, a feat that can be accomplished only by an army of men. In fact, the temple hires 6000 men simply to care for the idols.
