Shravanabelagola : Jain Glory

Shravanabelagola is famous for the spectacular temples dedicated to Jainism. In fact, the place is renowned all over the world for these temples.

The city is nestled in the arms of the Chandragiri and the Vindhyagiri Hills. The cityscape of Shravanabelagola is laden with almost 23 centuries of Jain history and heritage as the city itself dates back to the third century BC. It is possibly even older. Shravanabelagola is blessed with innumerable temples and structures dedicated to the Jain religion. Of these, the gigantic statue of the Jain saint Gommateshvara Bahubali is the most significant. The statue looms over the rest of the city with its height of 57 meters. It is magnificent in its structure and munificent in its holiness. The structure is a personification of the two qualities prized in Jainism such as renunciation and nonviolence. There are some other beautiful places here as well such as the Kattlae Basadi. Here you will find some spectacular statues of Adinatha Tirthankara and Pampapathi.
